How to Apply
Entry Requirements:
If you wish to apply, it is best to do
so promptly. The University will do its best to handle your application
speedily, but sufficient time must be allowed for the various processing
stages to be completed and delays can occur as indicated below.
In general, applications not complying with the following
guidance may be returned to you.
1. The application form
All sections of the form should be filled in completely,
clearly and legibly - this applies especially to names, addresses, contact
numbers, qualifications and work experience. Do not write ‘see enclosed
documents or CV’ etc. For Chinese applicants, please make
sure you include your address in Chinese as well as in English.
2. Quick contact
You must put an email address and telephone/mobile number
to allow us to contact you if necessary.
3. Educational qualifications
-
(a) An honours degree in any discipline
(other than Business and Management) from a UK university or an overseas
degree recognised by Loughborough University.
-
(b) Be sure
to include copies of all relevant documents relating to educational
qualifications.
-
(c) You
must include copies of degree results by subject as well as a degree
certificate, please include both.
-
(d) If your transcript and degree
certificate are not in English, please include an official translation.
4. References
-
(a) You
must provide two references. These are likely to be two academic references,
but if you have relevant work experience, one academic reference and
one employment reference is acceptable. If you have been out of education
for some time and have a variety of work experience, two employment
references would be acceptable, preferably from different organisations.
References should be provided on official stationery (pre-printed).
Academic references should comment on your previous studies and express
your referee’s opinion as to your suitability to undertake a
qualification at Postgraduate level in English.
-
(b) To enable us to deal with your
application promptly, please submit references together with your
application form. The references should be on headed notepaper and
in sealed envelopes with the referee’s signature across the
seal to ensure origin and confidentiality.
5. English language qualifications
-
(a) If your degree is not from an institution where
English is the sole language of teaching, the University requires
that you provide evidence of English language proficiency. This is
normally in the form of a certificate with minimum IELTS result of
6.5 or a TOEFL result of 600 (old system) or 250 (new system). All
applicants are required to meet the standard entry requirements listed
above for entry directly onto a Masters programme in the Business
School.
-
Alternatively, applicants with a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL
570/230/80 may be admitted to a 10 week pre-sessional English Language
course.
-
Applicants with a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or TOEFL 525/196/61
may be admitted to a 19 week pre-sessional English Language course.
Please note that in June all applicants on this course will take an
IELTS exam. Business School applicants will be required to obtain
an IELTS of 6.0 in this exam before being permitted to progress to
the 10 week course. We therefore strongly recommend that Business
School applicants join the 19 week course with an IELTS of 5.5.
-
Applicants with a minimum IELTS score of 4.5 or TOEFL 500/173/53
may be admitted to a 6 month pre-sessional English Language course.
Please note that in June all applicants on this course will take an
IELTS exam. Business School applicants will be required to obtain
an IELTS of 6.0 in this exam before being permitted to progress to
the 10 week course. We therefore strongly recommend that Business
School applicants join the 6 month course with an IELTS of 5.0.
-
(b) Students whose first language is not English,
but who have been taught and examined fully in English throughout
their degree or equivalent programme, must provide written evidence
which the University may be prepared to accept in place of the normal
qualifications in English Language listed above. The University reserves
the right to require applicants to undertake further pre-entry tuition
in English Language where there is recent evidence that their existing
level of English falls below the normal minimum standard.
Problems with any of the above can cause serious delays
in processing an application. You can help yourself and help us at the
same time by following the suggestions.
You will receive an acknowledgement when your form has
been received by the University, but if you have not had a formal decision
on you application within a reasonable time (i.e. about 6 weeks after
submitting it), please contact us to enquire about the progress of your
application.
We look forward to receiving your application form in
due course.

Application & Enquiries:
We advise you to apply to us by posting
to us the hard copy of the application with all the relevant bits of information
we ask for. Please read the page on ‘entry requirements’.
It is best if you do not apply electronically
as you often cannot send copies of your transcripts and sealed references
and that delays the whole process. So while you think that your
application is getting processed it actually doesn’t for lack of
relevant information.
